Volunteer Requirements
Our volunteer program is designed to attract and retain volunteers. We offer not only our mandatory initial training and personal enrichment course, but also optional continuing education each year. All training and education is provided by highly skilled Hospice instructors. This training fosters confidence and professionalism.
While there's an initial investment of time and effort to become part of our volunteer program, once you become a volunteer, how much you volunteer, and when you volunteer, is strictly up to you. Unlike many volunteer programs, we don't require a weekly, monthly, or annual time commitment. Your time is a gift. We want you to give it wisely and find the best balance of home, work, play, and volunteering.
Volunteers must have a personal commitment to the mission and philosophy of Hospice & Palliative Care.
All volunteers will complete a pre-training interview, have three satisfactory personal references from persons not related to them, and complete an initial 18-hour training course.
Every volunteer must provide a health screening from your health care practitioner in accordance with New York State Department of Health requirements.
Every volunteer must also successfully complete a criminal background check.
If you're interested in volunteering, you must wait at least one year after a significant loss in order to focus on your own healing.
Your time is a valuable gift. Give it wisely by volunteering for Hospice & Palliative Care. Don't wait. Apply now by downloading the Training Registration and sending the completed form to us. Thank you!
