Hospice & Palliative Care Achieves Level Three Partnership in the National We Honor Veterans Program

Hospice & Palliative Care is proud to announce the achievement of a Level Three Partnership in the National We Honor Veterans Program.

The We Honor Veterans Program, developed by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and Department of Veterans Affairs in 2010, is designed to help hospices care for veterans at the end of life. Four levels of distinction have been developed based on an organization’s involvement with veteran education and interaction with veterans and their family members. The goal of these levels is to ensure the very best care is being provided to those who have served our country.

By recognizing the unique needs of our nation’s veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness, Hospice is able to accompany and guide America’s veterans and their families toward a more peaceful ending. In cases where there might be specific needs related to the veteran’s military service, combat experience, or other traumatic events, the We Honor Veterans Program gives Hospice staff the tools to help support those they are caring for.

We Honor Veterans focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement.

“For the past several years, it has been my pleasure and privilege to deliver, on behalf of Hospice & Palliative Care and a grateful nation, Veterans Recognition Awards to this select group of men and women who have served our country. These people do not think they have done anything extraordinary, but they are anything but ordinary. They will not be forgotten,” said Bob Maher, U.S. Army veteran and Hospice volunteer.

The liberty that we, as United States citizens, enjoy comes at a price paid by these valiant men and women. Let each of us make sure we do our part to recognize and support them throughout their lives.
